Bei La is the representative of Neo-romanticism Literature in China. She was born in Shanghai (China) in a family of doctor. At 20, she left China, pursued studies in Italy and Japan, majoring in piano, and then she moved to North American. She is a Canadian.

She started writing prose and short stories when she was a student. Her first book” The Night of Tokyo" was published in 1991. In 1994, she published another book” A Shanghai Girl in Japan”. It caused a stir, and the signature sale was unprecedented. Shanghai TV Station reported the whole event. This book was ranked No 1 by the "Wenhui Reading Weekly” in the National Bestseller list. A famous short stories collection of Bei La is “The endless Spring", obtained No 4 in the bestseller list in Shanghai immediately upon publication. It was also ranked as the No 1 Classical Book Bestseller among publishers. Bei La has successively obtained more than 10 literature awards among the global Chinese publication.

On Sept.11, 2001 she lost a special person in her life to the tragedy that unfolded at the World Trade Centre that cut a deep wound in her heart,it was a turning-point in her career. She started writing novel, which had great success and made her very famous.

Bei La is the author of '911 Love Trilogy' (which are '911 Celestial Wedding', 'Bella's Secret Garden' and 'Sentimental Casablanca') The Chinese two languages edition of '911 Love Trilogy' were published both in China and Taiwan. It quickly propagated huge international response and interest in the book. Bei La's sensitive observations on human tragedy and sorrow against the canvas of a romantic grand love story moved the hearts of countless men and women. Her ability divides the burden of pain. She has inadvertently brought the different cultures of the east and the west together, much to the acclaim of critics worldwide. Bei La’s novels through the tragic story of a Chinese woman on Sept.11, the novel transformed the experience into a beautiful story that belongs to the whole world and all humans, thus it has significant impact beyond the literature itself.
